All sections of Gyeongju City's Bomun Lake Trail Ring was completed on November 7, 2014.
Bomun Lake Trail Ring was ambitiously constructed by Gyeongju City since 2010 to make Bomun Lake Resort an international tourism & resort complex for the domestic and foreign tourists visiting Gyeongju.
Bomun Lake Trail Ring, which currently spans 8km in total length, has completed the ring around Bomun Lake by building Moolneoul (the native Korean term meaning the big waves rolling in a big body of water) Bridge in November 2013. However, visitors had to walk on a roadside pavement along the 1km trail toward Myeonghwal Mountain Fortress was the water was deep and there was a private property in the middle.
The new course leads to a waterside trail along Bomun Lake except for the zone with the private property so the walkers can enjoy the beautiful view of Bomun Lake as much as they can.
The city procured national funds/provincial funds including municipal funds totaling 72 billion KRW to complete and open the new Bomun Lake Trail Ring to give Bomun Resort a new image and attract more tourists to Gyeongju.
On November 15 (Sat), Gyeongju City and Gyeongsangbuk-do Tourism Corporation held 'Gyeongju Bomun Lakeside Trail Completion Walkathon' to celebrate the completion of Bomun Trail Ring. Bomun Lakeside Moonlight Walkathon will be held on the 15th of each month to attract tourists to Bomun Trail Ring.
"I am very happy to be able to walk through the entire trail around Bomun Lake in Bomun Resort, a friendly shelter for the people of Gyeongju and a tourist attraction, without having to worry about the smog," said Mayor Choi Yangsik of Gyeongju. “As there are many things to see, things to eat, and things to enjoy around Bomun Resort, including Gyeongju East Palace Garden, we will try to make Bomun Resort a more attractive site for more local people and tourists."
The City will install nighttime landscaping lighting along Bomun Lake Trail Ring for the comfort of tourists in Bomun Resort and unique nighttime scenery. By doing so, it will be developed into one of the most popular walking trails in Korea.
