Gampo Kkakji-gil(Gampo Kkakji Road) won the grand prize at Contest for the 30 Best Local Resources in Our Village

To celebrate Local Government Day (October 29) in 2013, Gyeongju ‘Gampo Kkakji-gil(Gampo Kkakji Road)’ won the grand prize at a Contest for the 30 Best Local Resources in Our Village held by Ministry of Security and Public Administration and Korea Local Promotion Foundation for sharing the performance of local government and enhancing the national interest.

'Local resources' means special local products or attractions in Korea that are unknown for the values since those were made by the lead of private party.

Gampo Kkakji-gil(Gampo Kkakji Road) was started in order to develop the nature of Gampo, create distinctive jobs for the inhabitants of rural areas and create a new local brand. It is composed of 8 sections, total of 80.7km--Road for walking along the coast (Section 1, 18.8km), Road for biking (Section 2, 6.3km), Road for walking with the memory of hometown (Section 3, 9.9km), Road entering the village alley (Section 4, 6.2km), Road for watching while driving (Section 5, 13.4km), Road for walking while lost in meditation (Section 6, 8.7km), Road for walking toward the sound (Section 7, 4.4km), Watercourse while on the ship (Section 8, 13km).

Distinctivenesses of Gampo Kkakji-gil(Gampo Kkakji Road) are the
village alley walking along the coast which is comparable to Jeju Olle Trail,
the mountain ridge road connected meanderingly along the pine grove road, the
forest path of mountain temple with full of phrases of meditation where heals body and mind while walking,
the street of modern houses built with the best technology and materials by Japanese businesspeople as the biggest advanced base for fishery on eastern coast,
Haeparang Trail which is more fascinating while on the ship,
sea route from Songdaemal Lighthouse (where columnar joint is located) to Tomb of King Munmu.

Especially, Gampo Kkakji-gil(Gampo Kkakji Road) is a road with the image of people's lives as those are.
Neobeom Village cultivating cotton field,
household items made with straw,
Sotdae (a pole signifying prayer for a good harvest) Street made by talented inhabitants of rural areas,
and trying hard for the continuous improvement by developing distinctive special local product, such as seaweed soap and rice wrap with steamed mackerel.

'Gampo Kkakji-gil(Gampo Kkakji Road),' which is operated by Gampo Kkakji-gil(Gampo Kkakji Road) Promotion Association, was born as a result of effort of inhabitants gathering their talents to improve the value of the area by concentrating the value of succession of natural resources and traditional lifestyle while many people excited by new things after breaking the old things

The Association is composed of 15 board members and 70 inhabitants. They trained 30 Gampo Kkakji-gil(Gampo Kkakji Road) guides and purchased 'yachts for watercourses while on the ship' with their money. Also, they are operating Gampo Kkakji-gil(Gampo Kkakji Road) Promotion Hall, rest area in village, straw handicraft, wood handicraft and cotton field experience.
