< The 『8th Gyeongju Korea Open International Taekwondo Championship Organizing Committee』 organized. > The Founding Assembly of the Organizing Committee for the perfect preparation and operation of the 8th Gyeongju Korea Open International Taekwondo Championship, which will be held in coming July, was held on April 2, 2014 at 3:00 PM at Alcheon Hall in Gyeongju City Hall with the participation of the members of the Committee and the officials from the Taekwondo industry. At 4:30 PM on the same day, the tablet hanging ceremony was beautifully held at the South Gate of Gyeongju Indoor Gymnasium.

The Founding Assembly enacted the Articles and organized the Organizing Committee (75 members) with the Mayor of Gyeongju appointed as the Chairman and the Former Chairman Kim Moonsoo of Gyeongju Taekwondo Association as the Standing Deputy Chairman. Then, they celebrated the hanging of tablet at the South Gate of Gyeongju Indoor Gymnasium for the success of the event.

The 8th Gyeongju Korea Open International Taekwondo Championship Organizing Committee will take charge of preparation and operation of the event, procurement of funds, general planning and execution, programming and execution of related cultural and art events, promoting the support measures for the event and other businesses needed to achieve its objectives.

The 8th Gyeongju Korea Open International Taekwondo Championship will be held at Gyeongju Indoor Gymnasium for 6 days from July 11, 2014 through July 16, 2014, and aims at the participation of about 2,500 contestants from about 50 countries, including middle school, high school, and college students, general contestants, and various Taekwondo Associations and Club Teams.

This event will focus on promoting Korea, the home of Taekwondo, and Gyeongju, the origin of Taekwondo, to the world and sharing the spirits and culture of Taekwondo. It will also contribute to the local economy and participation with various programs, including the city tour of local businesses and traditional marketplaces related to the historical sites of Taekwondo and Taekwondo experience for the public, based on the experience with the 7th Gyeongju Korea Open International Taekwondo Championship held in Gyeongju last October 2012.

The 7th Gyeongju Korea Open International Taekwondo Championship was held for 6 days from October 25 through October 30 last 2012 and greatly contributed to promoting Gyeongju and the local economy as the greatest event in history with 2,190 contestants in 293 teams from 43 countries (660 international contestants).

The Mayor of Gyeongju, who is the Chairman of the Organizing Committee, asked the officials to focus on preparing for the event to ensure its success and the people of Gyeongju to show their hospitality to the Taekwondo fans and tourists visiting Gyeongju so they can feel the 1,000-year history and spirit of Silla and make many memories in the origin of Taekwondo.
