For its 20th anniversary, the Gyeongju Cherry Blossom Marathon will be held in front of Gyeongju World Culture Expo Plaza at Bomun Tourism Complex on Saturday, April 9th.
The marathon is loved nation-wide by marathoners. The marathon features the most beautiful cherry blossom road in Korea and the atmosphere of the ancient capital, millennium kingdom to the world.
Last year, amid loud cheers, 13,000 Korean and international runners participated in the marathon. The marathon is firmly planted as a world-class competition, attracting about 2,000 international runners from 16 countries.
The application period is through March 15th,and the application is available at the Gyeongju Cherry Blossom Marathon website–www.cherrymarathon.com.
There are four options for runners – a full course, a half course, a 10km course, and a 5km healthy course. The participation fee is 30,000 won for a full course, a half course, and a 10km course, and 20,000 won for a 5km healthy course.
There will be awards for the first, second and third place male and female runners, and also awards in four different age groups – youth, 30s, 40s, and senior citizens.
Because this is the 20th year of the competition, various special events and promotions will be held to attract the interest of participants. Among the participants who apply on the website, the 2020th and 7777th applicants will receive electronic appliances as gifts. In addition, those whose application numbers are related to the opening date (the 409th, 1409th and 10409th), related to the year the marathon was initially held (the 1992nd), and related to this, the 20th anniversary of the marathon (2011th and 5011th) will also receive gifts. To add the fever of youth, gifts will also be presented to the participants who were born in 1992, for being born in the year the marathon was initially held.
Participants will also enjoy more than just the marathon, benefitting from food and beverages, instant photos, the amusement park, and discounts on accommodations and saunas.
