The Gyeongju Agricultural Technology and Extension Center has been developing and merchandising "Byolchaeban", Gyeongju's authentic dishes that blend its agricultural products with its culture. On June 9, it took place a grand opening reception for the authentic Gyeongju's folk restaurant <Byolchaeban>'s Gyodong-Sambab location with over a hundred invited guests present, including food related professors, business executives, press members, and the city councilmen.

Gyeongju's authentic folk cuisine has been branded "Byolchaeban", which means a complete meal that metaphorically carries the symbolic star of both historic and future oriented Gyeongju.

The merchandised dishes are 'Yukbuchon' Yukgaejang and 'Gondalbi' Bibimbab. 'Yukbuchon' Yukgaejang is a type of spicy soup made of the beef and entrails of Korean-breed beef cattle named "1,000 years" selected from Gyeongju's finest livestock. 'Gondalbi' Bibimbab is a Korean version of risotto that features a special vegetable called "Gondalbi" (Ligularia Stenocephala). Its flavor and taste will be enhanced with its specially prepared seasoning made of bean (instead of pepper) paste and anchovy powder.

Two locations, Gyodong-Sambab at Hwangnam-dong and Jangwon-Sutbul-Garden at Hwansung-dong, have been designated as authentic restaurants for "Byolchaeban." Their environments have been improved to suit their business characters, and the standardized recipes and skills have been transferred to ensure the regularity of the tastes.

The Director of the Gyeongju Agricultural Technology and Extension Center expressed his plans to increase the number of its designated restaurants and to serve the environment-friendly "Byolchaeban" as the representative dishes of Gyeongju.
