Starting on Friday, April 29th, Gyeongju City will hold a series of outdoor music concerts in two flower gardens around the city. They will start at 7:00 in the evening, and will run for 25 Friday evenings through September. In April and May the concert will be held in the rape flower garden to the south of the Cheomseongdae observatory, and from July to September in the lotus area.

Flower areas such as rape flower fields, lotus ponds and wild flower gardens have been planted and developed in recent years to complement tourist attractions around the city, and are becoming increasingly popular year by year.

A number of programs featuring a variety of different instruments have been prepared for the concert series. The concerts will feature the daegeum (a traditional bamboo flute), the gayageum (a traditional harp), saxophones and trumpets, various singers will be invited, and there will even be opportunities for visitors to join the performances during “impromptu time”.

The concerts will harmoniously combine traditional and modern music. It is hoped that the performances will provide a feast for the eyes and the ears of visitors and citizens alike, and that through enjoyable events like these, visitors will not just pass through Gyeongju once, but will stay a while and return again and again.
