< The Exciting Korean Music and Dance Festival that Blends the Old and the New > The city of Gyeongju and the Culture Foundation of Gyeongju are presenting <2012 Bomun Outdoor Korean Classical Music Concert> starting from May 3 until September 29. The concerts will be held at 7 in the evenings from every Thursday through Sunday (Saturdays and Sundays only in June and September), on the Outdoor Stage of Bomun Complex (at the pagoda by the Lake Square).

While paying a tribute to the history and culture of Silla, where Korea's very first Royal Institute of Music, Eumseongseo, was founded, the Bomun Outdoor Korean Classical Music Concert is of a great significance for the preservation and development of the local traditional culture. The concert has been cherished over the last 20 years as the representative regular program of cultural tourism.

Featuring are some of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Gyeongsang Buk-Do: Park Giza and Jung Soonim, Noted Singers n.28 and n.34. Nine Korean classical music orchestras in all will take part in the concert, 3 at a time in rotations. This will be a great opportunity to offer tourist attractions as well as to support the local artists while preserving our own music and dances that are being forgotten.

Diverse genres of Korean music will be played: Jungga(Korean classical songs), the Pansori Epic Chant, Gayageum Byeongchang (singing accompanied by a twelve-stringed Korean harp), Daegeum Sanjo (a large fife), Samulnori (an ensemble of the four farmers' percussion instruments). Various Korean dances will be staged: Buchae-chum, Janggo-chum, Taepyong-mu, Hallyang-mu, etc. In addition, contemporary pop songs and original soundtracks, new wave percussion instruments, and all sorts of drums will be played. These performances will shake your shoulders and make you, whether you are Korean or not, feel the charming taste of our tradition.

Above all, real-life experiences and participation programs will be added up this year to accommodate family visitors whose workdays are shortened by one day to five days a week.
